Ten passengers have been rescued after suspected bandits attacked a commercial bus travelling along the Jos-Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, while three others remain in captivity.
The attack occurred on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. near the Folgore Forest axis, between Gate Two Safer Highway and Dogo Dutse. According to the Kano State Police Command, the commercial Toyota Hiace bus was travelling from Jos to Kano when armed men intercepted it.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Doguwa Division received a distress call and immediately mobilised tactical operatives to the scene.
Preliminary findings showed that five armed suspects, reportedly carrying machetes and a firearm, blocked the road, attacked the vehicle and abducted 13 of the 20 passengers on board.
Security operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle, leading to the rescue of nine kidnapped passengers. Another victim later escaped from captivity, bringing the total number of rescued passengers to 10.
The police confirmed that three victims—one man and two women are still being held by the kidnappers.
The rescued passengers were taken to Doguwa General Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Authorities said they are in stable condition.

The command added that additional tactical teams have been deployed to the area, while intelligence gathering and search operations have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining captives and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents and road users for promptly reporting the incident, noting that the timely information enabled officers to respond swiftly.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against criminal activities.
