The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects following a violent dispute over farmland that claimed the life of a 47-year-old farmer in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday in Kumba Village, Sama District of the Burra Emirate. According to police, the confrontation began after an argument between two farmers over the dumping of weeds on farmland.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yakubu Mai-Duna allegedly dumped weeds from his farm onto the farmland of Kabiru Yusuf, sparking a heated disagreement that escalated into a physical fight involving both families.
Police said Kabiru Yusuf and his three sons allegedly assaulted Mai-Duna during the altercation. Another resident, Usman Gagare, who reportedly attempted to intervene and stop the fight, was also attacked.
Officers from the Burra Divisional Police Headquarters responded after receiving a distress call, arrested the four suspects and rushed the injured victims to a Primary Health Care Centre in Yada-Gungume for treatment.
Mai-Duna later died while receiving medical attention, while Gagare was treated and discharged.
The suspects are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and culpable homicide. Police said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue and lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and assured the public that anyone found responsible would face the full weight of the law. The command also called on residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report criminal activities to security agencies.
