The Nigerian Army has rescued two kidnap victims in Taraba State following a swift intelligence-led operation carried out by troops of the 6 Brigade under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, the operation was launched after security personnel received credible intelligence about the activities of suspected kidnappers around the Lande Jessi axis in Lau Local Government Area.
The suspects were reported to have attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani communities, abducting two residents and making away with food items. Acting on the intelligence, troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue mission that led to the successful recovery of the victims.
The rescued victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, had reportedly spent about a week in captivity before they were freed unharmed.
Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing kidnappers and ensure they face justice.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their professionalism, courage and prompt response, describing the rescue as another demonstration of the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He added that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements across the country.
Akaliro also urged residents of Taraba State to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen efforts against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
The rescue forms part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at improving security and safeguarding communities across Taraba State.
