The Kwara State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Matrix just hours after it was reported missing in Ilorin, demonstrating the growing impact of technology in modern policing.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the vehicle was stolen from a parking space at Mandate Market around 11:00 a.m. on April 27, 2026.
The incident was promptly reported to the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Acting swiftly, police operatives deployed an integrated vehicle tracking and immobilisation system linked to the car’s security device. This enabled real-time location tracking and remote disabling of the engine.

The vehicle was eventually traced to the Ilorin–Jebba Expressway later the same day, where it was found abandoned by the roadside.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had attempted to conceal the car’s identity by altering its registration number, although the original plate was recovered nearby.
The recovered vehicle has been secured at the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging intelligence-led strategies and advanced technology to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
