A 16-year-old Junior Secondary School student has alleged that she was trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana under the guise of securing a job opportunity abroad, prompting an ongoing police investigation.
The teenager, identified as Hannah (surname withheld), claimed she was deceived by a neighbour, Tosin Moses, who promised her better employment prospects outside the country.
According to the victim, she had been living with her father in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, before the incident.
She explained that Tosin, a familiar neighbour, gained her trust through frequent contact and later convinced her to travel abroad for work without informing her family of the full details.
Hannah alleged that she left Nigeria in late January 2026, passing through Ogun State and Ibadan before crossing into Ghana by boat. She further stated that she was instructed to wear her school uniform on the day of departure to avoid suspicion.
She said her father was initially unaware of the plan and had earlier cautioned against her travelling with the suspect.
Upon arrival in Ghana in February 2026, the teenager alleged that she was informed of the true nature of the situation, which she described as exploitative.

She further claimed she was isolated and prevented from contacting her family during her stay.
After several months, Hannah said she managed to escape and returned to Nigeria on May 27, 2026.
“I thought I was going abroad for a job, but I later realized it was something else entirely,” she said.
The case reportedly came to light after a concerned resident alerted a local security operative, who then informed law enforcement authorities.
A police officer was subsequently contacted, leading to preliminary actions.
During a visit to the suspected residence, officers reportedly met only the suspect’s mother and another young girl, said to be awaiting a similar trip.
The Lagos State Police Command’s Gender Unit has confirmed that it is handling the case and has pledged to carry out a full investigation into the allegations.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
