A tragic incident has claimed the lives of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old daughter after they fell into an abandoned dry well in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The victims, identified as Abubakar Abdullahi and his daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, were recovered from the well by officials of the Kano State Fire Service following a rescue operation.
According to the fire service, its Tsanyawa Division received a distress call on Tuesday evening and immediately deployed firefighters to the scene. However, darkness and difficult rescue conditions delayed the operation until additional personnel arrived from the agency’s headquarters.

Despite efforts to save them, both victims were pulled out unconscious and were later confirmed dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenage girl accidentally fell into the abandoned well. Her father reportedly entered the well in an attempt to rescue her but became trapped, leading to the deaths of both.
The bodies were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani, for burial.
Reacting to the incident, the Kano State Fire Service expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to avoid entering wells or similar confined spaces without proper rescue equipment and trained emergency personnel, warning that such attempts can easily result in additional casualties.
