The Oyo State Police Command has refuted widespread reports alleging that a pastor was arrested for supplying arms and ammunition to individuals involved in the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the reports circulating across social media and some online platforms as false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.
According to the statement, the claim originated from a Facebook post which alleged that a cleric had been apprehended for acting as a gunrunner for the abductors.
However, the post failed to provide any verifiable details, including the identity or location of the alleged pastor.
The police categorically denied the claim, stating that no such arrest has been made by the command or any other security agency involved in the ongoing rescue operation.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that this claim is entirely false, misleading, and unfounded. No such arrest has been made by the Police or any known security agency,” the statement read.
The command further described the publication as a deliberate attempt to distract security operatives and undermine public confidence in ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted victims.
Authorities urged members of the public to disregard the misinformation and rely solely on verified updates from official communication channels of the Oyo State Police Command.
The police also issued a stern warning to individuals and platforms spreading false information, noting that anyone found culpable would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming its commitment, the command assured residents that efforts remain ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, while maintaining security across the state.
