The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a staff member of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), over the alleged illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets meant for public distribution.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the arrests followed credible intelligence received on June 9, 2026, regarding the diversion and sale of mosquito nets provided under a government health intervention programme.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, identified as Rabbi Bennett, a USAID staff member attached to Ife North Local Government Area in Ipetumodu, allegedly collaborated with two others Opeyemi Ajibola and Aminu Ibrahim to sell six bundles of mosquito nets containing about 300 pieces.
The police disclosed that the nets were originally intended for free distribution to residents as part of efforts to combat malaria and improve public health outcomes.

Further findings indicated that a disagreement arose between Bennett and Ajibola, a commercial motorcyclist, over the proceeds from the illegal sale, which subsequently exposed the operation.
“All suspects were arrested and taken into custody for interrogation, during which they reportedly confessed to their involvement in the offence,” the police spokesperson stated.
The suspects have since been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
The Osun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring that government resources meant for public welfare are not diverted for personal gain.
