
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a 21-year-old Nigerian student, Qayyum Balogun, in Dublin, Ireland.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dabiri-Erewa described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss, not only to the bereaved family but to Nigeria as a whole.
She noted that the young student, who was in his third year studying Computer Science at Maynooth University, was a promising individual whose life was cut short at a crucial stage.
According to her, Balogun was widely regarded as a disciplined, peaceful, and hardworking young man with aspirations of becoming a computer engineer.
She emphasized that his untimely death represents a significant loss to the nation, which continues to celebrate the achievements of its young citizens abroad.

The NiDCOM boss stressed that every Nigerian, regardless of their location, deserves to live, study, and pursue their dreams in a safe and dignified environment.
Dabiri-Erewa also expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation by Irish authorities, urging that it be thorough, transparent, and expedited to ensure justice is served.
She called for all those responsible for the incident to be held accountable in accordance with the law.
She further commended the Nigerian Embassy in Ireland, as well as members of the Nigerian community and other well-meaning individuals and organizations, for their support to the grieving family during this difficult period.
Extending her condolences, Dabiri-Erewa prayed for strength and comfort for the family of the deceased, while also wishing the late Balogun eternal rest.
Reaffirming NiDCOM’s commitment to Nigerians in the diaspora, she encouraged them to remain law-abiding and continue to uphold the values of excellence, resilience, and patriotism that Nigerians are known for globally.
