The Nigeria Police Force has uncovered an alleged staged kidnapping involving a two-year-old child and arrested suspects connected to the incident.
Police operatives attached to the Intelligence Response Team carried out the investigation, which led to the arrest of 34-year-old Nansik Wuyep Sule over the alleged kidnapping of two-year-old Rito Jesse Davou.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Ani Iniedu, investigations revealed that Sule allegedly conspired with the child’s biological mother, Catherine Davou, to stage the kidnapping and create the impression that the child had been abducted.
The suspects allegedly demanded an initial ransom of ₦7 million, which was later increased to ₦15 million.
Police said further investigations revealed that the child was kept at Sule’s residence during the alleged plot.
Another suspect, identified as Luka Emmanuel Butdam, was also arrested for allegedly making calls to the child’s grandmother in connection with the ransom demand.
The two-year-old was eventually located and rescued safely by police operatives. The child received medical attention before being handed over to his biological father.

In a separate investigation, the Intelligence Response Team also arrested Idris Mohammed, popularly known as Yellow, and Mohammed Bello Adams over their alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery activities.
Police alleged that the suspects were connected to the kidnapping of commercial driver Idris Zakari Baba, who was reportedly lured into accepting a trip from Abuja to Zaria before armed men intercepted him and took him into a bush.
The victim was allegedly held captive until a ₦3 million ransom was paid. His 2012 Toyota Corolla was later traced to Bauchi State and recovered while one of the suspects was allegedly attempting to sell it.
Police said investigations were continuing to identify other persons linked to the alleged criminal activities and determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.
