The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in separate fraud-related operations involving more than ₦22 million allegedly obtained through different fraudulent schemes across the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations into multiple financial crime cases reported in different parts of Jigawa.
In one case, a woman was arrested after allegedly disappearing with ₦10.5 million that had been entrusted to her. Investigators tracked her to Gombe State using intelligence and digital tracking techniques before taking her into custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
In another operation, detectives uncovered an alleged online fraud scheme in which criminals reportedly posed as spiritual money-makers on WhatsApp. The suspects allegedly convinced a woman living in Saudi Arabia to transfer ₦12.923 million through several bank accounts. A 21-year-old suspect was arrested in Kaduna State in connection with the case, while investigations are continuing to identify other members of the network.
The command also arrested a 27-year-old man accused of tampering with a female bank customer’s ATM card before fraudulently withdrawing money from her account. During a search, officers recovered 36 ATM cards belonging to different banks. Police believe the suspect worked with another accomplice who remains on the run.

Meanwhile, police also foiled a motorcycle robbery attempt after responding to an emergency along the New Gwaram-Kila Road. The victim, a 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist, was allegedly attacked with a hammer by two passengers who attempted to steal his motorcycle.
The suspects fled after noticing the approaching officers, abandoning both the motorcycle and a revolver pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunition and two expended shells. The injured victim was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Jigawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling financial crimes and violent offences, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
