
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested six suspected members and associates of an armed robbery gang operating across Ikono, Ini and Obot Akara Local Government Areas of the state.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a coordinated operation carried out at identified criminal hideouts in the three local government areas.
According to the police, the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering aimed at dismantling a criminal network allegedly involved in the theft and disposal of motorcycles and other valuable items.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said those arrested included a suspected native doctor who allegedly provided charms and other fetish preparations to members of the gang.

Another suspect was also arrested for allegedly producing fake receipts used to facilitate the sale and disposal of suspected stolen motorcycles and other valuables.
Items recovered during the operation included two single-barrel shotguns, three laptops, one suspected stolen motorcycle, local charms and other fetish materials found at the shrine of the suspected native doctor.
The police said other materials relevant to the ongoing investigation were also recovered.
The State Commissioner of Police has directed that the investigation be intensified to determine the individual roles of the suspects, recover more stolen property and apprehend other members or collaborators of the alleged criminal network who may still be at large.
