Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has revealed why his friendship with Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido came to an end, citing disagreements surrounding the demand for justice for late singer Mohbad.
VDM made the revelation in a video shared on Thursday, explaining that the issue that initially brought them together eventually contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.
According to him, he became actively involved in the campaign for justice following Mohbad’s death in September 2023. Davido reportedly followed him on social media in early 2024, after which they gradually developed a friendship.
VDM said he occasionally showed support for the singer by promoting his songs and new releases.
However, he claimed their relationship took a different turn following his arrest in 2024 and the discovery of a WhatsApp group chat in 2025.
He alleged that the group included individuals associated with Davido and other entertainment industry figures, with conversations suggesting that some members had planned his arrest because of his persistent calls for answers over Mohbad’s death.

The social media critic said he made several attempts to contact Davido to understand why people within the singer’s circle were allegedly targeting him, but claimed the musician did not respond to his calls.
He further alleged that a blog linked to Davido’s associates later accused him of attempting to record a conversation with the singer to blackmail him.
Describing the experience as a betrayal, VDM said he was disappointed because he genuinely considered Davido a friend.
The revelation comes amid the ongoing public exchange between VDM and Nigerian rapper Zlatan, which has also drawn Davido into the controversy.
Davido recently attracted attention after a video emerged showing him dancing to Zlatan’s song, INFERNO, at his wedding welcome party in Morocco. The song reportedly contains lyrics directed at VDM, further fuelling the tension between the parties.
