Troops have rescued a two-year-old boy who was abducted alongside his mother by suspected kidnappers in Ungwan Nungu village, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The rescue operation was carried out at about 4pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following intelligence on the movement of the kidnappers and their victims.
Security sources said troops searched areas around Tayu High Grounds, Tayu Village and adjoining communities in Sanga LGA while attempting to locate the abducted mother and her child.
During the operation, the troops reportedly encountered the suspected kidnappers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The kidnappers abandoned the toddler, identified as two-year-old Jafaru Baba, before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
The troops recovered the child and later handed him over to his father.
Security sources said 17 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were expended during the encounter.
Efforts are now focused on locating the boy’s mother and arresting the suspected kidnappers. Security forces have also intensified search operations across the surrounding areas as they track the fleeing suspects.
