Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate during a coordinated security operation in Oyigbo Local Government Area.
Police said the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. The suspects are believed to have been involved in a series of abductions targeting residents in several communities.
According to the command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects admitted to participating in kidnapping activities and operating within areas including Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam.
The arrested suspects are from different states across the South-East and North-Central regions. Police said investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged criminal network who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, described the arrests as a result of intelligence-led policing and coordinated operational strategies aimed at dismantling criminal groups in the state.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence and other crimes, stressing that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Rivers State.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice. Authorities assured the public that efforts to safeguard lives and property would remain a top priority as investigations continue.
