At least three officials of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) have been hospitalised following a violent mob attack triggered by a road accident along the busy Zaria Road in Kano.
The incident occurred at Kwanar Dawaki when a speeding trailer rammed into a Sharon commercial bus that had been stopped by KAROTA officials for a routine inspection.
The impact caused the bus to somersault multiple times, leaving several passengers seriously injured.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that tensions escalated shortly after the crash, as angry youths at the scene blamed the traffic officials for the incident. In the chaos that followed, the mob descended on the KAROTA personnel, inflicting injuries on at least three officers.

Confirming the development, KAROTA’s Public Relations Officer stated that the truck driver responsible for the crash fled the scene while rescue efforts were ongoing for the injured passengers and officials.
The Managing Director of KAROTA has appealed to the public to remain calm and support law enforcement officers carrying out their duties, stressing that such personnel are essential to maintaining order and safety on the roads.
The incident has once again brought attention to ongoing concerns by motorists regarding the agency’s operations, particularly allegations of roadblocks and misconduct on major highways across Kano.
Authorities are expected to investigate both the crash and the subsequent mob action.
