Unidentified gunmen have killed the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area Organised Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, during a deadly attack in Rivers State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening along Oba Road in Omoku, where Nwaocha was reportedly attacked while sitting near his residence with family members and acquaintances.
According to the Public Relations Officer of OSPAC in Rivers State, Nkem Godknows, the attackers opened fire at about 5:00 p.m., killing the commander instantly. Three women who were at the scene were also struck by bullets and died, while two other victims sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The attack triggered panic across the community, forcing residents to flee for safety as businesses hurriedly closed over fears of further violence.
Godknows appealed to residents of Omoku and the wider Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He also called on the Rivers State Government to provide greater support for OSPAC, noting that members of the local security outfit operate with limited funding and poor welfare.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been established.
Reacting to the incident, the Rivers State Police Command described the killings as a setback to the relative peace enjoyed in the state. Police spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe condemned the attack and assured residents that security operatives had launched an investigation to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
She also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down the perpetrators.
