Police operatives in Bayelsa State have arrested a father and his son over the alleged unlawful possession of four single-barrel guns during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa.
The suspects, identified as 68-year-old Tibi Friday and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrade Tibi, were reportedly travelling in a commercial tricycle to Abua in neighbouring Rivers State when officers attached to the Anti-Vice Unit intercepted the vehicle for inspection.

During the search, security operatives allegedly discovered four single-barrel firearms concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks, an arrangement investigators believe was intended to avoid detection.
The Bayelsa State Police Command said the arrest represents another step in its efforts to curb the spread of illegal firearms and tackle violent crime across the state.
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa, where detectives are investigating the source of the firearms and whether other individuals may be linked to the case.
Police said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that anyone found violating the law would be brought to justice. The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in protecting lives and property.
