
Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a 68-year-old man and his 36-year-old son for allegedly being in unlawful possession of firearms in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as Tibi Friday and his son, Oyabrade Tibi, were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the arrest was made by officers attached to the Anti-Vice Unit at about 10:30 a.m. on July 6.
The police disclosed that the father and son were traveling in a commercial tricycle en route to Abua in neighbouring Rivers State when the vehicle was intercepted for a search.

During the operation, officers reportedly discovered four single-barrel guns concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks, an apparent attempt to evade detection.
“The Bayelsa State Police Command under the leadership of CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor has recorded another significant operational breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in possession of four single-barrel guns,” the statement read.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa for further investigation to determine the source of the firearms and identify any other individuals who may be connected to the offence.
The Command reiterated its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and violent crimes across the state. It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing.
