The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a primary school teacher, Mariam Usman, following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the police, the incident began after the teacher reportedly disciplined an 11-year-old pupil during school hours. The pupil’s father, Abdullahi Isiaka, allegedly confronted and assaulted the teacher at her residence on June 17 over the punishment.
Investigators further disclosed that later that same day, the victim was allegedly attacked again while on her way to a mosque by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
The following day, June 18, another suspect, Ojonojima Mary, said to be Ramatu’s younger sister, allegedly went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka and assaulted the teacher at her workplace.

The injured teacher was first taken to a local clinic in Ugbamaka before being transferred to another medical facility in Okpo for further treatment. Despite efforts to save her, she reportedly died on June 25 due to injuries sustained during the assaults.
Following an extensive investigation by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the police said they established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects.
The command confirmed that the investigation has been concluded and that the suspects will be arraigned before a competent court to face prosecution.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, praised the detectives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes. He also urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead seek lawful means of resolving disputes while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
