The Plateau State Police Command has arrested an additional suspect in connection with the mob killing of a University of Jos graduate, Ibrahim Mbaya, in an incident that has sparked widespread outrage across the country.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, was apprehended following credible intelligence linking him to the tragic event.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Beskeni allegedly played a key role in the unlawful assault that led to Mbaya’s death. He is accused of helping to tie the victim to a pole while members of the mob subjected him to severe torture over allegations of mobile phone theft.
The police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have also intensified efforts to track down other individuals involved in the attack who are still at large.
The acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the victim’s family and the public that justice will be served. He emphasized that all those found culpable in the incident would face the full weight of the law.

“We remain committed to ensuring that everyone involved in the torture and death of Ibrahim Mbaya is brought to justice,” the Commissioner stated.
The police also urged members of the public to provide useful information that could aid the investigation, reiterating their commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and upholding the rule of law.
Recall that Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” died on July 27 after he was allegedly tortured by a mob at an off-campus residence in Jos over accusations of theft. The incident has reignited nationwide calls for an end to jungle justice.
With this latest development, the number of suspects in custody has risen to five, while investigations continue.
