
The Abia State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Uzoma Uwaeme over the alleged brutal abuse of his 13-year-old son.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the boy allegedly tied with a rope, severely beaten, stripped naked and left under the scorching sun.
Uwaeme, a resident of Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba, was arrested by officers from the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.
The police said the boy had been left in his father’s care by his mother. The command also stated that Uwaeme had remarried.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the command became aware of the incident after the video went viral online.
The victim was taken for medical attention and is currently in stable condition. He has also been placed under police protective custody.
The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while the suspect remains in custody.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the alleged abuse, describing it as inhumane, barbaric and a violation of the rights of the child.
Afolabi assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law if found culpable.
The police also urged members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
