
Security operatives have arrested a suspected explosives expert allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a coordinated operation in Abia State.
The arrest was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), following credible intelligence reports.
According to security sources, the operation took place in the early hours of July 12, at about 3:50 a.m., in Ummuene community, located in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.
Troops from the Headquarters, 14 Brigade, alongside DSS operatives from Abia and Enugu State Commands, reportedly stormed the suspect’s hideout, leading to his capture.

The suspect is described as a key explosives-making specialist allegedly working for the IPOB/ESN network. During the operation, security operatives recovered two mobile phones believed to contain valuable information for ongoing investigations.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to the DSS Abia State Command for further interrogation and necessary legal actions.
Security officials noted that the arrest is part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts aimed at dismantling criminal and extremist networks operating across the South-East region.
The operation underscores the continued collaboration between security agencies in tackling threats to national security and maintaining stability in affected areas.
