The Plateau State Government has disbursed N1.5 billion in humanitarian assistance to 1,579 victims of violent attacks across five local government areas of the state.
The intervention was supervised on Monday by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
Beneficiaries were drawn from affected communities in Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas.
The N1.5 billion package comprises N1 billion donated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Initiative, alongside N500 million contributed by the Plateau State Government.
Speaking during the disbursement, Yilwatda, who said he had personally experienced displacement during crises in Plateau, expressed sympathy with the victims and urged them to use the assistance to rebuild their livelihoods and communities.

Governor Mutfwang said the intervention was intended to provide immediate relief to families whose homes, livelihoods and loved ones had been affected by violence.
He acknowledged that the financial assistance could not replace lives lost or erase the trauma suffered by victims but said it could help affected families begin the process of rebuilding.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Kachollom Pyam Gang, said an inter-ministerial committee had been established to identify eligible beneficiaries and promote transparency in the process.
She added that part of the funds would also be used for community projects in the affected areas.
The state government further pledged to continue working towards creating conditions that would enable displaced persons to safely return to their ancestral communities.
