At least five people have reportedly been killed after gunmen attacked a vegetable market in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Friday as traders were preparing to close for the day.
A survivor said the attackers opened fire randomly, causing traders and other people at the market to flee in different directions.
According to the survivor, the attack lasted for about 20 minutes and left several people injured.
The President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, MDA, Deacon Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident.
Dabit said the gunmen also opened fire on vehicles leaving the vegetable market.

He said the identities of the victims were yet to be established, while several injured passers-by were receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
The MDA president said gunmen had earlier opened fire at a vehicle leaving the market at about 8:30 p.m.
The attack occurred just hours after the association raised concerns over alleged continued threats to communities in Mangu.
The MDA claimed that more than 750 Mwaghavul people had been killed since 2023.
