A commercial bus conductor, Nasiru Garba, has recounted how he narrowly survived a deadly attack by gunmen in Plateau State that claimed the lives of eight passengers and the driver.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm near Dungus Junction in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area, when the bus stopped by the roadside to drop off some passengers.
Garba, who had only spent four days working as a conductor, said he was standing near the front of the vehicle when the attackers suddenly opened fire.
According to him, five passengers had just alighted while the driver stepped out to collect transport fares when the gunmen began shooting.
He said the passengers who had alighted, those still inside the bus and the driver were all killed during the attack.

Garba said he immediately crouched inside the bus after hearing the gunshots. The attackers later approached the vehicle, opened the front door and searched him.
He disclosed that the gunmen took all the money in his possession as well as his phone, which was charging at the time.
The survivor said he could not identify the attackers because he avoided looking at their faces during the incident.Describing the experience as terrifying, Garba said he was left confused and shocked by the sudden attack.
The vehicle was later found stained with blood and riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the severity of the attack.
