A missionary pastor serving in a rural community in Plateau State has died after suffering a snakebite, raising fresh concerns over the increasing number of fatal snake attacks in the area.
The deceased, Rev. Nankur Peter Kundul, was a pastor with the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) who was serving in Boltim village, located in the Gamakai District of Langtang South Local Government Area.
According to reports shared by fellow pastor Rinkyer Asaph on a Christian platform, Rev. Kundul died while receiving treatment at Sabon Gida Clinic after being bitten by a venomous snake.
Asaph revealed that the late pastor was not the only victim, noting that at least two other Christians had reportedly died from snakebites in the community within the past week.

He described the situation as a growing public health emergency that threatens both lives and agricultural activities in the area.
Gamakai is regarded as one of the major farming communities in Langtang South, with many residents depending on agriculture as their primary source of income and food production.
According to Asaph, the increasing number of venomous snakes could discourage farmers from working on their farmlands, potentially affecting food production and food security in Plateau State and beyond.
He called on local, state, and federal authorities to urgently investigate the rising snake population in the community and implement measures to prevent further deaths.
Residents have also appealed for improved access to healthcare facilities, anti-venom treatment, and immediate intervention to address what many now describe as a serious and escalating crisis.
