The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its indefinite strike following an assessment of the security situation across the state.
The union had embarked on the industrial action after the abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, located in Orire Local Government Area, raising concerns over the safety of teachers and pupils in public schools.
In a statement jointly signed by the state NUT Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and Secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union said the decision to call off the strike came after consultations with the Oyo State Government and appeals from other stakeholders.

According to the union, it carefully reviewed the prevailing security situation before resolving to suspend the action, expressing confidence that efforts were being made to improve the safety of schools across the state.
With the suspension of the strike, teachers have been directed to resume classroom activities, allowing academic work to continue while authorities sustain measures aimed at strengthening security in schools.
The strike was triggered by widespread concerns over insecurity following the kidnapping of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, an incident that prompted calls for stronger protection of educational institutions across Oyo State.
