
Four men have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly transporting stolen telecommunications batteries valued at approximately ₦8 million.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit along the Oyo–Ogbomoso Expressway. Police said the operation led to the interception of an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna carrying suspected stolen telecom infrastructure equipment.
In the case now titled “Four Nabbed While Transporting Stolen Telecom Batteries Worth ₦8m,“ preliminary investigations revealed that officers recovered four hybrid solar batteries believed to have been stolen from a telecommunications facility in Offa, Kwara State. Authorities estimated the value of the recovered equipment at about ₦8 million.
The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation that the batteries were removed from the facility before being transported to an undisclosed destination. The police added that the vehicle used in conveying the items has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Police authorities disclosed that the recovered equipment and other exhibits have been taken into custody while efforts continue to uncover the full scope of the alleged operation and identify other possible members of the network.

Commending the officers involved in the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State praised their vigilance and professionalism, noting that their swift action helped prevent the possible sale or disposal of the stolen equipment.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and ensuring that individuals involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing credible information with security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
