
One herder was killed and two others injured after suspected Berom militia attacked Fulani herders in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday.
Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that troops of Operation Enduring Peace responded to a distress call around 4:00 p.m. on June 18. The alert came from Torok Community in Rim District, where gunmen had reportedly opened fire on herders grazing in a bush area.
Troops from Sector 6 were deployed immediately. On arrival, they found the body of 25-year-old Abdul Samaila, also identified as Abdurrahman Ibrahim from Bangai settlement. Two other victims, Abbas Saidu, 18, and Bashiru Rabi’u, 15, sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The attackers had fled before security forces arrived. Troops have since launched domination patrols and a manhunt to track down those responsible.
“The troops responded promptly to the report and found one victim dead and two others injured. The wounded victims were evacuated for medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators,” a security source said.
The Fulani community in Riyom has condemned the attack, describing it as tragic and unfortunate. Community leaders said the victims were attacked while grazing and called for justice and urgent steps to prevent further violence in the area.
