
Police in Anambra State have arrested a landlord following the mysterious death of a 23-year-old nursing student found lifeless in her apartment in Idemili South Local Government Area.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old nursing student, identified as Chiamaka Chilaka, who was found dead in her apartment at Uruezeani, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area.
The deceased, an ND II student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, and an indigene of Isingu in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, was discovered lifeless on Sunday shortly after attending a church service.
Eyewitness accounts and a viral video circulating on social media showed emotional scenes, including a cleric lamenting the student’s death in distress.
Preliminary allegations suggest the student may have been subjected to repeated unwanted advances by her landlord, which she reportedly resisted.
It was further alleged that she was last seen having an altercation with him prior to her death.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations.
He stated that the case was transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Awka, for a comprehensive probe ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
According to him, officers who visited the scene observed visible injuries on the deceased, including a deep cut on her thigh, marks of violence, and blood stains, raising suspicion of possible foul play.
The police spokesperson added that the body has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities assured that anyone found culpable will be brought to justice and urged members of the public to provide useful information that may assist the investigation.
