
In view of the ongoing preparatory activities by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, has called on Engineers across the country to actively participate in the political process by joining credible platforms and taking steps to contest for elective offices.
The President reiterated that the Society remains committed to supporting the candidature of any Engineer aspiring to political office, as part of its vision to enhance professional representation in governance and national development.
Engr. Rabiu made this known while receiving a courtesy visit from Past Vice President of the Society, Engr. Aisha Umar, FNSE, who formally informed him of her intention to contest for the Senatorial slot to represent Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections. She appealed for the President’s prayers and support, noting that this marks her first foray into partisan politics and expressing her strong determination to emerge victorious and effectively represent her constituents.

Engr. Rabiu further called on Engineers to rally behind and support their colleagues seeking political offices, emphasising that increased participation of Engineers in governance will contribute significantly to national development and the promotion of technical expertise in public policy.
It will be recalled that at the 432nd Council Meeting held on Thursday, June 18, 2020, the Society resolved to support Engineers participating in politics, particularly those contesting for elective positions. As part of this resolution, the Council approved financial support for candidates as follows:
- Local Government Chairman / State House of Assembly: ₦250,000
- House of Representatives: ₦300,000
- Senate / Governorship: ₦500,000
- Presidency: ₦1,000,000
