The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck carrying about 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated diesel mixed with gas condensates during an operation in Anambra State.
The seizure was made along Awka Road in Onitsha following intelligence received by the command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad. According to the NSCDC, operatives tracked the truck before intercepting it, but the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled upon noticing security personnel.
State Commandant Maku Olatunde said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and the illegal distribution of petroleum products across the state.
The truck and its contents have since been moved to the NSCDC headquarters in Awka, where they are being kept pending further investigation. Authorities said laboratory tests would be carried out on samples of the suspected adulterated diesel to determine its composition.

The command also disclosed that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the fleeing driver as well as anyone connected to the illegal consignment.
Olatunde reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting the nation’s oil and gas sector from economic sabotage, warning individuals involved in the illegal petroleum trade to desist or face prosecution.
He added that the NSCDC would continue strengthening intelligence gathering, surveillance, and joint operations with other security agencies to curb illegal activities in the petroleum industry and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
