
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has recovered a double-barrel gun from the scene of a road traffic accident along the Awka–Enugu Expressway.
The discovery was made on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. by an FRSC rescue patrol team during a routine inventory of victims’ belongings after completing rescue operations at the crash site.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the firearm was found concealed among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles.
Ohaeri explained that the prompt recovery highlights the FRSC’s broader role beyond saving lives, noting that the Corps also contributes significantly to national security through its operations.
“In line with standard procedures and our commitment to public safety, the firearm was immediately secured to prevent unauthorised access or misuse,” the statement read.

He further revealed that no individual came forward to claim the weapon, and no valid documentation was presented at the point of recovery. The gun has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism and vigilance of the rescue team. He noted that incidents like this underscore the importance of FRSC personnel as first responders who often uncover items of security concern during their operations.
Mohammed reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring road safety while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the country.
He also urged motorists and members of the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities observed on highways.
