Some personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, have accused the state commandant, Augustine Padonu, of allegedly forcing officers to contribute money towards his birthday celebration and church harvest.
The officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that personnel deployed to different beats across the state were asked to make contributions ranging from ₦1,000 to ₦50,000.
According to the officers, the contributions were coordinated by Superintendent of Corps Adeeyo Oluremi Babatunde, popularly known as “The Machinery,” who serves as the Beat Coordinator.
They alleged that the practice started after Padonu assumed office in Oyo State in January 2024, with officers repeatedly asked to contribute towards his personal celebrations and church activities.
SaharaReporters reportedly obtained WhatsApp messages and contribution records showing that 58 officers contributed a total of ₦616,000.
The records showed that the money was paid into a PalmPay account registered in Adeeyo’s name, with contributions varying according to the officers’ different beats.

The officers further alleged that an initial contribution of ₦1,000 per person was rejected, after which personnel were asked to contribute ₦5,000 each.
A WhatsApp message attributed to Adeeyo reportedly instructed beat leaders to inform their personnel that the ₦5,000 would be deducted from their allowances.
The allegations also came amid preparations for the commandant’s birthday, which was reportedly marked on August 29 after several activities during the week.
One of the whistleblowers alleged that officers who questioned the contributions risked being transferred or facing disciplinary accusations.
The officer also claimed that personnel had little information about how much of the money collected was eventually handed over to the commandant.
However, when contacted, Adeeyo confirmed that he made the deduction but rejected the description of the payments as extortion.
He described the contribution as a form of welfare and sacrifice for a superior, insisting that he had sought the consent of the officers involved.
Adeeyo also questioned why officers would complain about contributing ₦5,000, noting that some personnel earn more than ₦100,000 or ₦150,000 monthly.
The allegations have raised concerns about financial demands placed on personnel within the Oyo State NSCDC command and the use of officers’ allowances for personal or social events.
