The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man allegedly linked to a threat to kidnap and kill a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki, and members of his family.
The incident came to the attention of the police on September 19, 2026, after the victim, Metu Jilani, reported receiving threatening phone calls from unknown persons. The callers allegedly claimed they had been contracted to kidnap and kill him and his family.
According to the police, the suspects demanded ₦3 million and directed the victim to pay the money into an account belonging to a Point-of-Sale operator in Kwara State.
Rather than paying the full amount, Jilani reportedly transferred ₦100,000 into the account. Police investigators then monitored those attempting to withdraw the money.

On September 18, two men, identified as Hantsi Abdullahi and Hantsi Liman, allegedly went to the POS operator to collect the funds. Abdullahi was arrested, while Liman reportedly escaped.
The police said Abdullahi was subsequently attacked by an angry mob before officers intervened and took him to hospital, where he remains on admission.
The Oyo State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and establish the identities and roles of others who may be connected to the alleged threat.
Police authorities have urged members of the public to promptly report threats, suspicious movements and other information that could help prevent criminal activities.
