The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yobe State Command, has arrested five suspects, including a 42-year-old woman, over the alleged purchase and processing of meat from cattle that died without proper veterinary inspection.
The suspects were reportedly arrested in the New Jerusalem area of Damaturu following intelligence received by the command.
According to the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Bala Garba, the command had placed the woman, identified as Nancy Benedict, under discreet surveillance for two weeks before her arrest.

Garba disclosed that operatives allegedly witnessed the woman purchasing two cattle carcasses for ₦100,000, with suspicions that the meat was intended for human consumption.
The five suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue into the source of the cattle, the cause of their deaths, and whether the meat had already been processed or distributed.
The NSCDC warned that consuming meat from animals that died without proper veterinary inspection could pose serious health risks.
The command is also investigating whether the suspects had been involved in similar activities in the past.
