The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested a 35-year-old man, Rayyanu Ibrahim, over the alleged theft and vandalism of armoured cables at the Birnin-Kudu Township Water Station.
The incident was reportedly discovered around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after suspected vandals allegedly tampered with the facility’s electrical installations.
According to the NSCDC spokesman, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, operatives from the Birnin-Kudu Division were mobilised following a report on the incident and intelligence provided by the Birnin-Kudu Peace and Security Group.
Ibrahim was reportedly arrested around 11:00 a.m. the same day and was allegedly found in possession of an armoured cable believed to have been removed from the affected facility. The cable was recovered as an exhibit.

The NSCDC said the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary questioning and reportedly disclosed his alleged involvement in other cable theft and vandalism incidents within and outside Birnin-Kudu.
Investigators are now working to identify other persons who may be connected to the alleged activities and determine the extent of the damage caused.
The Jigawa State Commandant, CC Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and urged residents to report suspicious activities around public facilities to security agencies.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
