A man identified as Livingston Nwakanma has been arrested by youths in Osaa Ukwu community, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, after he allegedly killed his mother with a machete.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday when Nwakanma allegedly attacked his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, while she was in the kitchen preparing to cook.
According to reports, the woman, who was a popular trader in the community market, died from injuries sustained in the attack.
Nwakanma reportedly fled the community after the incident but was later apprehended by youths and taken into custody.

The deceased’s husband, Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the incident and expressed grief over the death of his wife. He reportedly said his son had exhibited signs of mental instability for about four years.
Reports also alleged that the suspect struggled with drug addiction and mental health challenges.
As of the time of the report, the Abia State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident.
The tragic incident has left residents of the community mourning and has renewed concerns about the need for timely intervention when individuals show signs of severe behavioural or mental health difficulties.
