The Nigerian Police Force has reportedly ordered officers and their families residing in the Command Barracks in Owerri, Imo State, to vacate the premises amid allegations that the property has been sold.
Sources familiar with the development said the directive came without clear explanation and without any alternative accommodation provided for the affected personnel, leaving many officers and their families in uncertainty.
According to the sources, residents were informed that the barracks land had already been disposed of, although this claim has not been officially confirmed by police authorities.
Officers were reportedly issued a form to fill out before June 1, 2026, which requires personal details, including bank account information. The form is believed to be part of arrangements for possible compensation, although no official details have been released regarding relocation plans or payments.

The sudden evacuation order has reportedly caused tension within the barracks community, with many personnel expressing concern over where they would relocate with their families and how they would cope with the abrupt displacement.
Some affected officers described the situation as distressing, citing the absence of structured resettlement arrangements and the uncertainty surrounding their housing situation.
Attempts to reach the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid broader concerns raised in recent months about alleged plans involving police residential quarters in parts of the country, including reports of possible sales or redevelopment of barracks facilities.
Earlier reports by Asenexpress have also highlighted similar tensions in other states, where officers allegedly faced pressure to vacate residential accommodations under comparable circumstances.
As of now, there has been no official public statement confirming the alleged sale of the Owerri barracks or detailing any formal relocation plan for the affected officers and their families.
