A 40-year-old Nigerian man, Olatunde Olaleye, has reportedly been shot dead in South Africa, leaving behind his wife and two children.
Olaleye, an indigene of Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was killed on September 21 while working at Spanata Bar and Grills in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA) said the incident reportedly followed an argument over whether a drinking glass should be taken outside the bar.
Smart Nwobi, president-general of NUSA, said reports indicated that a South African national allegedly shot Olaleye during the disagreement.
Nwobi also said the suspect allegedly returned to the bar after the incident and threatened the management, warning that members of his group would come back.

The union called for a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Olaleye’s death.
Nwobi urged the Nigerian diplomatic mission in South Africa to engage the relevant authorities and use available diplomatic channels to ensure that the matter is properly addressed.
He expressed sympathy with Olaleye’s wife, two children and the wider Nigerian community, while calling for justice and praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
Olaleye’s death comes amid other reported cases involving Nigerians in South Africa.
A Nigerian lecturer at the University of Fort Hare, Ayodele Odularu, was recently found dead at her residence in the Eastern Cape. She was 51 years old.
Earlier in September, Nigeria’s foreign affairs ministry also confirmed the deaths of two Nigerians, Taiwo Fakunle and James Nwankwo, in separate incidents linked to xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa.
