A 37-year-old Nigerian woman, Saratu Jibo, who was reported missing shortly after arriving in Qatar, has been found safe and reunited with her family.
The development was disclosed on Sunday by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Jibo had travelled from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to Qatar on Tuesday aboard Qatar Airways. Concern arose after her family lost contact with her following her arrival in Doha.
Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, had raised the alarm on Friday, explaining that the last communication he had with his sister was while she was still aboard the aircraft and connected to its Wi-Fi.
According to him, Jibo failed to contact the person who had been assigned to pick her up from the airport after landing. The individual reportedly contacted the airport desk and was informed that she had collected her luggage.
Subsequently, Achimugu said CCTV footage from the airline confirmed that Jibo had arrived safely, retrieved her luggage and left the terminal.
Providing an update on Sunday, Achimugu disclosed that Jibo’s phone and international passport had been temporarily held by Qatari authorities while certain issues were being clarified.

He said the Nigerian woman was eventually cleared and released, adding that she had regained possession of her belongings and contacted her family.
Jonathan later revealed that his sister had been taken to a hospital after falling ill at the airport.
He expressed appreciation to Achimugu, the Nigerian Embassy in Doha and Qatar Airways for their intervention in helping to locate and assist his sister.
Achimugu also commended a Nigerian resident in Qatar, Yusuf Adesoga, who reportedly visited security agencies in the country in an effort to establish Jibo’s whereabouts.
The family has since been reassured of her safety following the intervention.
