The Nigerian Army has rewarded a soldier, Private Utim Terwase, with ₦500,000 for rejecting an alleged bribe offered by a suspected kidnapper in Plateau State.
The suspect reportedly offered the soldier ₦500,000 in exchange for his freedom after he was arrested while attempting to escape.
However, Private Terwase rejected the offer and handed the suspect over to the appropriate authorities, demonstrating honesty and commitment to his duty.
The soldier’s conduct attracted commendation from the leadership of Operation Enduring Peace, which recognised his decision not to compromise his responsibilities for personal gain.
The cash reward was presented on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Maxwell Dangana.

Colonel Philimon Malgwi, Commander of Sector 6 of the operation, presented the reward to the soldier.
Major General Dangana described Terwase’s action as an example of professionalism, loyalty, accountability and selfless service expected from military personnel.
He urged other officers and soldiers serving under Operation Enduring Peace to follow the soldier’s example by maintaining discipline and refusing to engage in corrupt practices.
The GOC explained that the recognition was part of efforts to promote integrity and accountability among personnel involved in security operations.
The ₦500,000 reward, which is equal to the amount the suspect allegedly offered as a bribe, was described as a deliberate demonstration of the Army’s commitment to rewarding honesty.
Operation Enduring Peace is a military operation focused on tackling kidnapping, banditry and communal violence across parts of Nigeria’s North-Central region.
