
Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued six kidnap victims in Katsina State after they escaped from armed bandits and were found wandering in a forest.
The rescue operation was carried out by soldiers of the 17 Brigade during a routine foot patrol in Unguwan Doka area of Faskari Local Government Area.
The victims, who had fled captivity, were intercepted by the troops while attempting to find safety.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Abayomi Adisa, the victims were identified as Mrs. Umaima Isiaku (30), Amina Isiaku (16), Safiya Isiaku (15), Ramatu Suleiman (30), Muhammad Shehu (4), and Ibrahim Suleiman (2).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted on June 22, 2026, from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area by suspected armed bandits.

Following their rescue, the victims were provided with immediate medical attention, food, and other basic necessities before being safely reunited with their families.
The Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to intensifying operations against criminal elements in the region. He emphasized that the military remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property across its area of responsibility.
Katsina State, located in Nigeria’s North-West region, continues to face persistent security challenges, including banditry, abductions, and violent attacks, despite ongoing military efforts to restore peace and stability.
