The Nigerian Army has foiled a planned reprisal attack by suspected armed bandits in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, preventing what could have escalated into another round of violence in the area.
According to the Army, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) received reports of intermittent gunfire around the Banasu High Ground at about 1:52 p.m. on July 2. The troops, attached to Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81 and deployed at Gyambwas, immediately responded to the distress call.

Military authorities said preliminary findings indicated that the planned attack was intended as retaliation following an earlier incident in which herders were reportedly attacked and their livestock rustled by suspected militia members.
The responding troops engaged the armed suspects in a firefight, forcing them to abandon their operation and flee toward nearby high ground due to the superior firepower of the soldiers.
The Army confirmed that no casualties were recorded among its personnel during the operation.
Security forces have since intensified surveillance across the area and are continuing efforts to track down the fleeing suspects while maintaining a strong presence to prevent further attacks.
The military said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to curb violence, prevent armed militia activities and strengthen security across Plateau State.
