
A tragic incident has been reported in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where a 27-year-old commercial motorcyclist was allegedly killed by suspected motorcycle snatchers who fled the scene with his newly acquired bike.
The victim, identified as Haruna Muhammadu, was found lifeless in the early hours of June 30, 2026, between Angwan Baraya and Sagani villages. His body was discovered following a distress report received by security operatives.
According to security sources, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), alongside police officers from the Keystone Gindiri Division, swiftly responded to the alert around 6:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim’s body bearing multiple machete wounds.
A search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of a mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased. Using the device, security personnel were able to contact his father, Mr. Muhammadu Sheko, who later confirmed the victim’s identity.

Further findings revealed that Haruna Muhammadu had recently purchased a new motorcycle, which is suspected to have been the motive behind the attack.
The assailants reportedly made away with the motorcycle after committing the crime.
The victim’s body was evacuated by police officers and released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Security agencies have since launched an investigation to track down those responsible for the attack. Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to assist in combating criminal activities in the area.
This incident adds to growing concerns over rising cases of violent crimes targeting commercial motorcyclists in parts of the country.
