A coalition of civil society groups and activists has announced a nationwide protest for June 12, 2026, citing worsening insecurity, hunger, and economic hardship across Nigeria.
The demonstration, organized by the Take It Back Movement, African Action Congress, and over 16 other groups, will hold in at least 20 states including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, and Rivers.
Protesters say the action is a response to daily killings, kidnappings, and rising living costs that have left millions struggling.
Key demands include an end to banditry and terrorism, release of abducted students and teachers, reversal of anti-people policies, and a living wage for workers.
Organizers have framed the protest as a defense of democracy on a day that marks 27 years of uninterrupted civilian rule since 1999.
