
An aide to the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Jafar Abdullahi Dabawu, has been killed after armed attackers invaded his residence in the Maitumbi area of Minna in the early hours of Thursday.
Dabawu, who also served as President of the Minna Emirate Youth Association (MEYA), was reportedly attacked around 2 a.m. at his home located opposite a police station in the Maitumbi community.
According to reports, the assailants forced their way into the apartment while the deceased was at home with his wife and teenage daughter.
He was said to have gone into the sitting room after noticing the door had been left open, where he was ambushed and stabbed in the chest by one of the attackers believed to have been hiding inside the house.

Sources said the victim had only recently returned from Kuta in Shiroro Local Government Area, where he participated in a political primary process before the incident occurred.
Eyewitness accounts described the attackers as masked individuals, with the police later confirming that “miscreants wearing face masks” invaded the home, attacked the victim, and fled the scene after the assault.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly responded after an alarm was raised, rushed Dabawu to a general hospital in Minna, where he was confirmed dead.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said preliminary investigations had begun and efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, described the incident as tragic and deeply painful, extending condolences to the bereaved family. He also urged security agencies to ensure justice is served while calling on residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation as security operatives intensify efforts to track down the suspects behind the attack.
