
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two individuals suspected of engaging in illicit drug trade during separate operations in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
The arrests were confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed that the operations were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities through intelligence-led policing.
In one of the operations carried out on May 21, 2026, at about 6:25 a.m., officers attached to the Surveillance Team of the Agbani Area Command raided a known drug hideout at Umuiba Nara.
The raid led to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, identified as Ani James.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly confessed to dealing in various forms of cannabis, including substances locally referred to as “Loud” and “Colos.”
Several sachets and wraps of suspected illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.

In a related development, police operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended another suspect, Edeh Ikechukwu, aged 50, on May 16, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. in Isigwe Ugbawka, also within Nkanu East LGA.
Large quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa were recovered from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the second suspect had allegedly been involved in the illegal drug trade for over five years.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing and both suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining its crackdown on drug-related crimes and other criminal activities.
He also called on residents to remain law-abiding and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
