The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation after a woman allegedly entrusted her children to a relatively new co-tenant, who reportedly disappeared with them.
The incident, said to have occurred in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state, came to public attention after a video concerning the matter circulated online.
The police said investigators are working to establish what happened, locate the missing children and apprehend anyone found responsible.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, has urged landlords and property agents to conduct proper background checks on prospective tenants, including verifying their identities, phone numbers, previous addresses, next-of-kin details and guarantors.

Parents and guardians were also advised to be cautious when leaving their children with newly acquainted neighbours, domestic workers or other people whose identities are not well known.
The police further cautioned social media users and content creators against releasing sensitive information about child-abduction cases prematurely, warning that such disclosures could interfere with investigations or endanger rescue efforts.
Members of the public with useful information about the children’s whereabouts have been urged to contact the nearest police station or the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
